About this recipe

Garlic toast is better when the garlic cooks in the butter first. Raw garlic on hot bread can taste harsh.

Parsley at the end is for color and a clean bite, the way the slices in the photo are finished.

Why this recipe works

  • Cooking the garlic mellows it.
  • A hot oven crisps the edges.
  • Parsley added off the heat stays green.

What you’ll need

  • 1 crusty loaf, thick slices
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • + 1 more ingredients and 5 steps…

Variations

  • Add a little Parmesan in the last 2 minutes.
  • Use olive oil instead of butter.

How to serve

Pile the slices so people can pull one. They are a side for pasta night.

Storage and reheating

Keep leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Fried sides lose their crunch in the fridge, so reheat them on a rack in a 400°F oven or an air fryer for a few minutes. Baked dishes reheat well covered with foil at 350°F.
